ELI5: why is web3 failing
Web3 is failing because it's like trying to build a house with fancy new tools that are too hard to use and don't really make the house better.
Imagine you want to buy a yummy cookie. Right now, you go to a bakery (like a website on the regular internet, called Web2), pay with your money, and get the cookie. The bakery keeps track of who bought what.
Web3 wants to change that. It's like saying, instead of the bakery, everyone in town gets a tiny piece of paper that shows you own part of the cookie recipe. You pay for the cookie with a special type of "digital money" (called cryptocurrency) and everyone keeps track of the sale on their own computer, making it super secure.
But here's why it's failing right now:
- Too Complicated: It's much easier to just go to the bakery! Web3 is like having to learn a whole new language and use a complicated machine just to buy a cookie. Regular people don't want to do that.
- Expensive: That "digital money" (cryptocurrency) can be very expensive and changes price all the time. Imagine the cookie costing one dollar one day and ten dollars the next!
- Not Really Better: Does having everyone keep track of your cookie purchase really make the cookie taste better or make it easier to get? Usually, no.
- Scary People: Because it's new and confusing, some bad people try to trick you and steal your digital money, like saying they can sell you a magic cookie recipe that doesn't exist.
- Slow: Because everyone needs to agree on the sale, it takes longer to buy the cookie than just paying at the bakery.
