ELI5: Why is my phone overheating
Your phone is overheating because it's working too hard, like when you run around a lot and get hot.
Think of your phone like a little person doing lots of jobs at once.
- Imagine running: When you run really fast, your body makes heat. Your phone does the same! When it's doing a lot of things, like playing a game or watching a video, it's like your phone is running a race.
- Too many jobs at once: If you asked your little brother to run, do homework, and build a Lego castle all at the same time, he'd get tired and maybe even a little grumpy! Your phone feels the same way when you have lots of apps open, or when you're downloading something big while also using other apps.
- Staying in the sun: If you stand outside in the hot sun for a long time, you get hotter. Your phone is the same! Leaving it in direct sunlight, like on a car dashboard, makes it overheat faster.
- A stuffy room: If you're in a room with no air conditioning and lots of people, it gets hot and stuffy. If your phone is in a case that doesn't let air flow around it, or if it's buried under blankets, it can't cool down properly.
- Give it a break from doing hard tasks.
- Close apps you're not using.
- Keep it out of the sun.
- Take it out of its case sometimes to let it breathe.
