ELI5: Why does Singapore collect rainwater?

Singapore collects rainwater because it needs more water than it naturally has to drink, wash, and keep everything clean.

Imagine you have a little cup, and you're really thirsty. The cup only has a tiny bit of water, but you need a lot more to feel good all day. That's like Singapore! It's a small island, and it doesn't have big lakes or rivers like some other countries to get water from easily. So, it needs to find other ways to get enough water.

Collecting rainwater is like putting out a big bucket when it rains. The bucket fills up with water, and then you can use that water later. Singapore does this on a much bigger scale!
