Imagine everyone in town loved buying and selling toy cars.

  • Suddenly, people got scared. They thought the toy car prices would fall. This fear was like a big worry spreading around.
  • So, everyone tried to sell their toy cars at the same time! But nobody wanted to buy because they thought the prices would go even lower. This made the toy car market crash!
  • Because the toy car factory couldn't sell cars, the boss had to fire the workers. No job, no money!
  • The toy car store owner also lost money because nobody was buying. He had to close his store.
  • The farmer who grew food for the workers couldn't sell as much food because the workers had no money to buy it.
This is like the Great Depression, but with toy cars instead of real things. It was a time when many people:
  • Lost their jobs.
  • Lost their savings.
  • Couldn't buy food or clothes.
  • Lost their homes.
Many banks (like places where people kept their money) closed because people panicked and took all their money out. If the bank ran out of money, everyone lost what they had saved there.

It was a really hard time for almost everyone. The government had to come up with new ideas to help people get back on their feet and fix the economy (which is like how our town makes and spends money).
