ELI5: what is the difference between ev and hybrid car
A hybrid car is like a bicycle with a small motor, while an EV (electric vehicle) is like a scooter.
Imagine you have a bicycle (hybrid car) and a scooter (EV car).
- The bicycle has pedals that you use to move, but it also has a little motor that can help you go faster or up hills. The motor can get its power from a battery. When you brake, the motor can even help charge the battery a little bit! This way, you don't have to pedal all the time. It uses both your effort and the motor's help. In a car, this means it uses both gasoline and electricity.
- The scooter only has a motor and a big battery. You don't need to push it with your feet at all. You just charge the battery, and it goes! An EV runs only on electricity. You plug it in to charge it, just like your phone. It doesn't use any gasoline at all!
- Hybrid: Like a dog that can bark (gas) and sometimes whine (electricity). It uses both sounds! You still need to feed it dog food (gasoline).
- EV: Like a toy robot that only needs batteries to move. No dog food needed!
