Autonomous driving means the car drives itself completely, while semi-autonomous driving means the car helps you drive, but you still need to pay attention and be ready to take over.

Imagine you're baking cookies.

• Autonomous Driving: It's like having a robot chef who knows the recipe perfectly. You tell the robot chef "bake cookies," and it measures the ingredients, mixes them, bakes them, and even takes them out of the oven without you doing anything. You can relax and watch TV! The car drives from point A to point B completely by itself.

• Semi-Autonomous Driving: This is like having a helper in the kitchen. You're still the main chef! The helper might measure out the flour for you (like adaptive cruise control that keeps a safe distance from the car in front), or maybe it helps stir the batter (like lane keeping assist that gently nudges you back into your lane if you start to drift). But you still need to add the eggs, set the oven temperature, and decide when the cookies are done. You need to watch what's happening and be ready to take over if the helper makes a mistake or if something unexpected happens, like the phone rings. You are always responsible for driving, even if the car is assisting.
