ELI5: What is body sponsorship?

4 views Sep 16, 2026 2 min read

Body sponsorship is an arrangement where a person allows a brand to display advertising on a visible part of their body in exchange for money or another agreed benefit.

A simple example would be a marathon runner.

A company might pay the runner to display its logo as a temporary tattoo on their upper arm during the race.

Another company might sponsor their calf.

The agreement could cover one event, one day, several days or another clearly defined period.

Body sponsorship is not dramatically different from other types of sports advertising.

Formula 1 teams sell space on racing cars.

Football clubs sell space on jerseys.

Cycling teams cover uniforms with sponsor logos.

Body sponsorship simply introduces another advertising surface: the athlete themselves.

A modern body sponsorship can also contain additional deliverables. An athlete might offer the temporary body placement together with professional race photographs, an Instagram Reel or other social content.

That makes it closer to a sponsorship package than simply "renting skin."

SponsorMyBody.com is being developed around the idea of making these opportunities easier to organize. Athletes and creators could list available placements, define their event and price, approve the sponsor and provide proof after completing the campaign.
