Baroque art is a style of making paintings, statues, and buildings that are super dramatic, exciting, and full of emotion, just like an action movie in real life.

Artists who made this kind of art did not want you to just look at their work; they wanted you to feel amazed, shocked, or surprised.

Here is how you can spot Baroque style using everyday things:

• Flashlight in the dark: Think of sitting in a pitch-black room and shining a bright flashlight directly onto someone's face. Baroque painters loved this trick. They painted very dark shadows with sudden, glowing lights to make people look extra dramatic.
• Pausing an action movie: Instead of painting someone sitting quietly on a chair, a Baroque artist painted them jumping, running, or falling. It looks like someone pressed "pause" right in the middle of the most exciting part of a movie.
• Big feelings: The people in these artworks never have calm faces. They are crying, laughing, shouting, or looking terrified.
• Super fancy decorations: If a Baroque artist decorated your bedroom, they would cover every single inch with gold paint, swirling patterns, fancy velvet curtains, and giant statues.
