ELI5: What is artificial intelligence?
Imagine your toys could learn and do things by themselves, like a very smart robot. That's kind of what artificial intelligence (AI) is! It's about making computers and machines able to think and learn like humans.
Think of it as giving computers a brain, but a digital brain. Instead of flesh and blood, it uses code and circuits.
Here's how it works in simple steps:
- Feeding the AI: We give the computer lots and lots of information, like pictures, words, or numbers. This is called data.
- Learning the patterns: The computer looks for patterns in the data. For example, if we show it lots of pictures of cats, it learns what a cat looks like. This is called machine learning.
- Making decisions: After learning, the computer can make decisions based on what it learned. If we show it a new picture, it can say if it's a cat or not!
- Your tablet or phone: When you use
voice recognitionto ask questions, AI is helping it understand you. - Online games: AI can control the bad guys or make the game more challenging.
- Cars: Some cars can drive themselves using AI!
