ELI5: How VPN Works?

Imagine you're baking cookies, but you don't want your nosy neighbor (think: your internet service provider, or ISP) to know what kind of cookies you're making or who you're sending them to.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is like hiring a secret delivery service for your cookies. Here's how it works:

• Hiding the Recipe: First, you put your cookie recipe (your data) in a special, locked container (like encryption). This makes it unreadable to anyone who doesn't have the key.

• The Secret Courier: Instead of handing the container directly to your neighbor's delivery service (your ISP), you give it to the secret courier (VPN server).

• The Courier's Headquarters: The secret courier takes your container to their headquarters (the VPN server location), which might be in a different city or even country.

• Redelivery: From the courier's headquarters, another delivery person (still part of the VPN) takes the container to the final destination (the website or service you want to reach).

• Neighbor's View: Your neighbor (ISP) only sees you handing a locked container to the secret courier. They don't know what's inside, where it's going, or who will eventually receive it. They only see the connection to the VPN server.

• Your New Address: To the website, it looks like the cookies are coming from the courier's headquarters (the VPN server's IP address), not your kitchen (your real IP address).
