ELI5: how to tie a tie
Tying a tie is like making a little knot decoration around your neck to look fancy!
Imagine your tie is a road, and we're going to build a cool little bridge with it.
- First, put the tie around your neck, like a scarf, but with one side (the wide end) hanging much lower than the other (the narrow end). Think of the wide end as the big, strong truck and the narrow end as a tiny toy car.
- Next, cross the wide end over the narrow end, like the truck driving over the toy car.
- Then, bring the wide end up and behind the narrow end, like the truck going behind the toy car to park.
- Now, bring the wide end down through the loop in front of your neck, the space where the tie is like a circle, just above where you crossed them. Imagine the truck is going through a tunnel.
- Finally, hold the narrow end and slide the knot up to your collar, like adjusting the bridge to fit perfectly.
Sometimes you might need a grown-up to help you at first, but with a little practice, you can tie your tie all by yourself and look very smart for special days like going to a wedding or a fancy dinner! Itβs like learning to ride a bike; it might be wobbly at first, but soon you'll be doing it without even thinking!
