ELI5: How does biometric authentication work
Biometric authentication is like using your unique body parts as a secret code to prove it's really you.
Imagine you have a special clubhouse, and only you and your friends are allowed inside. Instead of a key, you use something special about your body that only you have! That's what biometric authentication is all about. It uses things like your fingerprint, your face, or even your voice to make sure it's really you.
Here's how it works:
- Taking a Picture or Recording: First, the system takes a "picture" of your special body part.
- Creating a Template: Then, the system turns that picture into a special code or "template" that's saved in the computer.
- Checking the Match: When you want to get into your clubhouse (like unlock your phone), the system takes another "picture" and compares it to the template it saved earlier.
- Letting you in (or not!): If the two pictures match closely enough, the system knows it's really you and lets you in! If they don't match, it means it's not you, and you can't get in.
