ELI5: How do trees produce oxygen?
Imagine trees are like tiny food factories, but instead of making yummy snacks for us, they make their own food! And as a bonus, they give us the air we breathe.
Here's how it works:
- Trees need food to grow big and strong, just like you.
- They get their food ingredients from two places:
- Now comes the magic part: Trees use something called sunlight to mix the water and carbon dioxide. Think of the sunlight as the power source for the factory.
- This whole process is called
photosynthesis.
- During
photosynthesis, the tree does two important things:
- So, basically, trees take in water and carbon dioxide, use sunlight to turn it into sugar, and then they give off oxygen as a leftover.
- That oxygen is what we breathe! So, trees are super important because they help keep the air clean and give us the air we need to live. It's like nature's way of sharing!
