ADSL and leased lines are both ways to connect to the internet, but ADSL is like sharing a road with your neighbors, while a leased line is like having your own private highway.

Imagine the internet is like a road system connecting houses (computers) to a shopping mall (the internet).

• ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is like a regular street in your neighborhood.

You share this street with all your neighbors. The "asymmetric" part means you usually get more traffic coming from the mall (downloading) than going to the mall (uploading), because most people download more than they upload. Think of it like getting lots of packages delivered but not sending many out. The speed can change depending on how many neighbors are using the street at the same time. If everyone's ordering online at once, your deliveries might be slower. It uses your existing phone line, so it's cheaper and easier to set up.

• A Leased Line, on the other hand, is like your own private highway straight to the mall.

You don't share it with anyone! You get the same speed both ways (symmetric) – uploading and downloading are equally fast. The speed is guaranteed; it doesn't change even if everyone else in the neighborhood is online.
